DR. GERRY AGNEW

Dr. Agnew was born in New York and grew up in Dublin. He studied Science, graduating with a BSc. in 1989. He then spent several years in the medical device industry in the United States and Ireland. This experience inspired a career change. He returned to university to study medicine, graduating with Honours from the Royal College of Surgeons in 2002.

Dr. Agnew completed specialist training as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in Ireland. In 2008, while working at the South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital in Cork, Dr. Agnew was named the hospitals’  ‘Doctor of the Year’. 

In 2009, he was awarded the Richard Steevens’ scholarship. This is an  award made to ‘outstanding Irish graduates’ to facilitate training abroad at an internationally recognised centre of excellence. Dr. Agnew completed a two year clinical fellowship in Urogynaecology and Pelvic Floor Reconstructive Surgery at the Mercy Hospital for Women, in Melbourne Australia.

In 2012, Dr. Agnew was appointed as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to the National Maternity Hospital, St. Vincents’ University Hospital and St. Michaels’ Hospital.

Dr. Agnew was a founding member of the multidisciplinary Pelvic Floor Centre at St. Michaels hospital. He is engaged by the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland to provide subspecialist training for Fellows in Urogynaecology and Pelvic Floor Reconstructive Surgery and teaches undergraduate medical students in his role as a senior clinical lecturer for RCSI and UCD. 

Dr. Agnew provides maternity care at the National Maternity Hospital and is a qualified instructor in the Management of Obstetric Emergency and Trauma. 

In 2021, he completed a Masters in Healthcare Management at the RCSI.

Dr. Agnew’s areas of interest include female urinary incontinence, prolapse and the restoration of normal vaginal appearance and function following childbirth.

Dr. Agnew provides private consultations at his consulting rooms at 60 Lower Mount St where he focuses exclusively on the area of Urogynaecology and Pelvic Floor Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Agnew operates at the National Maternity Hospital, St. Michaels’ hospital and St. Vincents’ Private Hospital.
